Cecil David (Mopey) Edwards, 81, of Roanoke went to be with the Lord Monday, December 12, 2011. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, a devout disciple of Jesus Christ, active in the Baptist Church, retired machinist from Norfolk –Southern, a well respected musician in the local Bluegrass community, and was the leader of the Bluegrass Inspirations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard R. and Pauline Chittum Edwards; brothers, Howard, Jr. and Larry Edwards; and his loving wife of 48 years, Celeste.
Survivors are sons and daughters-in-law, Richard D. (Ricky) Edwards and wife, Deborah G. and Terry L. Edwards, and wife, Leah Beth; grandchildren, Michael King, Sherri Camper, Kimberly Jennings, Andrew King, Whitney Bruce, and Joy and Celeste Edwards; seven great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a well loved and respected Christian lady friend, Patsy Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon, Friday, December 16, 2011 at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel with Rev. Ken Gray officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel, 982-2221, www.oakeys.com.
