Biography

Samuel Ralph Worrell, 78, of Botetourt County, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and his family was his world. He was a member of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church, retired from the Norfolk Southern Railroad, a member of Vinton Masonic Lodge No. 204, Roanoke Valley Scottish Rite, Kazim Shriners where he was a member of the Klown Unit, Roanoke Valley Shrine Club, and the Order of Quetzalcoati. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Lottie Worrell; brother, Billy Worrell. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Mavredes Worrell; two daughters, Trina Gray, Tonya Newton; step son, Louis Mavredes and wife Ginny; step daughter, Kathy Mavredes Penturff; granddaughter, Tori Gray; four step grandchildren, Spencer Brown, Justin Brown, Michael Mavredes, Jacob Penturff; three great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor B. Failes officiating and Masonic Rites by Vinton Masonic Lodge No. 204 AF & AM. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park with Military Honors by the U. S. Army. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kazim Shriners Transportation Fund, 628 Campbell Ave. SW, Roanoke, VA 24016.
