Gwendolyn Bert Holland, 90 of Vinton went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 7, 2012.
She was a member of Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church, VFW Post 1264, Women in Military Service for America, Fleet Reserve Association, and was a women’s leader for Civil Defense in Bridgeport, CT for several years. Gwendolyn was retired from the Naval Reserve and was a veteran of WWII serving in the Navy and Naval Air Force. She was active in summerstock theater, radio and television advertising, a longtime member of the Humane Society and was an avid supporter of animal rights.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert B. Danner of Bridgeport, CT formerly of Hollins, VA and mother, Luanna McGhee Pendergast of Bridgeport CT, formerly of Franklin County, VA: husband, John W. Holland of Vinton: Sister, Juanita Marie Mends, of Bedford, VA and brother Robert Danner, of Monroe, CT.
Gwendolyn is survived by loving niece and nephew-in-law, Diane and Terry Bowerman of Monroe, CT and their children, Amy Bowerman Stucki of Monroe, CT and Katelyn Bowerman Mendez of Fairfield, CT: great niece, Dana Fiebig, of Springfield, MO: Crystal LaBrie, whom she loved like a daughter and her children, Michael and Mariah: Several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10am on Saturday March 10, 2012 at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel with Pastor James Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton.
The family will receive friends from 4pm to 7pm on Friday, March 9, 2012. Arrangements by Oakey’s Vinton Chapel, 982-2221,
