Congratulations to Oakey’s Hospice Caregivers Award recipient for February 2018, Cindy Heath of Good Samaritan Hospice, Christiansburg.
Following is the letter sent to us nominating Cindy for this award:
The Blessing of Cindy Heath and the heart of care and giving she shares for others and with others:
There are many people who do many kind things some of the time to be thanked or noticed. Cindy often does kind things for many of our patients without saying a thing to anyone. We have had a number of persons with little unspoken needs that she has picked up and done something about:
A little one, perhaps about 5 years old weighing no more than a 1-2 month old baby, who could not keep warm was given feet warmers which could be placed in a sock and snuggled close so the little one could be warmed and comforted.
Another woman just out of the blue mentioned that on Thanksgiving day, she and her husband were at home alone. No visitors, no celebration, nothing but their normal routine. When they heard a knock at the door, they opened to find Cindy and her husband outside with all that was needed for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. She still marveled at it all and shared how much it meant, how she cried, and how she could not believe someone would care that much to bring her and her husband such a blessing.
There have been other small things that she has done that I know have blessed our patients but I cannot recall the details. I only remember thinking what a heart, what a blessing, what a generous spirit. Lord, help me to be more that way…
