Funeral Director
Larry Joines was born and raised in Chilhowie, Virginia. In 1976, he began working at Barnett's Marion Funeral Home. After graduating from Chilhowie High School in 1978, he attended the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, graduating in September 1979. At that time, Larry returned to Barnett's Marion Funeral Home, served his apprenticeship and became a funeral service licensee in 1980. He remained there until 1985 when he moved to Abingdon, Virginia and began working at Farris Funeral Service as the manager.
A member of the Southwest Virginia Funeral Directors Association, Larry served as the treasurer for several years and served a term as President. Later he become involved with the Virginia Funeral Directors Association serving on the Board of Directors and several committees for many years.
In 2008, Larry moved to Bassett, Virginia where he began working for Bassett Funeral Service. In 2009, he was promoted to manager of the funeral home and continued working with Bassett area families until March, 2022. During that time, Larry continued serving on the Virginia Funeral Directors Association Board of Directors and became President of the Association in 2016-2017. After serving as President, he continues to serve on the Board in various capacities.
In May, 2022, Larry moved to Vinton and is now a Funeral Director at Oakey's.
