Rosa Baker

We are pleased to announce the Oakey’s Hospice Caregiver’s Award winner for November 2015 is Rosa Baker of Gentle Shepherd Hospice.

Rosa was nominated for this award by her peers, friends and hospice families for her dedicated service to hospice patients and their families. She was selected for the award by independent judges, Nelson Harris and Donna Hopkins Britt.

Below are a few comments from Rosa’s nomination forms:
“Rosa, as a loving, compassionate, and well trained professional, “over exemplifies” what it means to be a hospice caregiver.

“We were blessed to have Rosa with us when my mother died. We were out of town, 2-3 hours away, when my Mom’s condition worsened. Rosa stayed with her, comforting her, letting her know that we were almost there, until we could get to the bedside. It was such a comfort and relief knowing that Rosa was there. Mom loved her. Rosa is a blessing to the Hospice profession. I can’t think of a better recipient for your award.”

“Rosa is one of the most self-sacrificing people I know. Despite health and family challenges, Rosa always places others above herself. She willingly accepts responsibilities other shun. Even when she has numerous personal needs, she always puts them aside when her patients need her.”

“Rosa’s kindness and love for others is at the center of her life. She has been selfless; dedicated to the health and welfare of others and an inspiration to everyone she meets. Because of Rosa Baker, the Roanoke Valley has been a better place.”

“Rosa is always willing to prepare a meal for anyone in need. She spends great amounts of her personal time cooking nutritious meals from scratch for those in need. Rosa has spent every Christmas for 30 years feeding a home-cooked dinner to the Veterans who have faithfully served our country. The drug and alcohol and mental health units’ staff have come to look forward to annual Christmas with Rosa. She feeds over 100 men and women, taking her own personal time to make the lives of others m ore special. She has prepared thousand of meals for the patients she has served.”

Congratulations Rosa! Thank you for all you do!
