Congratulations to Oakey’s Hospice Caregivers Award recipient for April 2o18, Stephanie Ham of Amedisys Hospice.
Following is the letter sent to us from Stephanie’s husband nominating her for this award:
Debbie,
I wanted to take a few and let you know about someone who takes care of people who require Hospice. I am married to a woman who currently works for Amedisys Hospice. Her name is Stephanie Ham. She is the MOST caring person I have ever seen. She absolutely loves her job to the point that she looks so forward to going in every day to see her patients. She goes above and beyond her duties to make these folks feel comfortable and at ease. About once a week she will go and purchase lotions and bath soaps out of her own pocket for the ladies. She purchases aftershave and lotions for the men. She has been known to sit and paint their finger nails for them and they absolutely love it. I think one of the biggest things is that she will listen. Many times during the week she will call me and say she will be a little late as she is sitting and just talking to a patient. They talk about everything from cooking to when they first met their spouse to what they did for a school dance. It is very common that she will receive holiday cards from the patient and family. She has been known to attend funerals for the patient just to show her love. One of her current patients has told her that she wishes that she was her daughter. It takes a special person to do this job and my wife does it so well. If anyone deserves to be acknowledged for this, my wife would be the one. Please let me know if you have any questions.
