William's Obituary

William Ernest Williamson, 85, of Roanoke, died Monday, December 24, 2012. He was born April 26, 1927 in Tuscaloosa Alabama, son of the late John Farmer, and Mary Irene Stroup Williamson, his three brothers; John B., C. Temple and Delmar H. Williamson also preceded him in death. Mr. Williamson was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School in Northport Alabama, and the University of Alabama. He served in the US Naval Reserves in the end of WWII and again in Korea. He worked for RCA at the Atlantic Missile Range during the "Man in Space" program as Communications Engineer at Cape Canaveral and as Communications Manager at the down range tracking stations on Antigua and Ascension Islands. He was a computer software engineer with Digital Equipment Corp for a number of years before retiring in 1992. After retirement he was elected to New Hampshire House of Representatives where he sat on the Education Committee. He is survived by his spouse, Mary Esther Williamson, three daughters; Rebecca E. (Charles) Kelly of Roanoke, Charlotte P. (William) Smith of Martinsville, Mary Temple (Lyndon) Arbogast of Vinton, son William T. Williamson of Texas, stepchildren; William Blomquist of California, David Blomquist of New Hampshire, Julie Mitchem (Russ), of Roanoke, Peggy Ohl of Radford, Richard Ohl (Becky) of Roanoke, Melissa Rice (Anthony) of Roanoke, Krystal Miller (Woody) of Roanoke, and six grandchildren, numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at St. James Episcopal Church with the Rev. Susan Bentley officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. James Music Fund, Good Samaritan Hospice or charity of your choice.
